ABSTRACT

The purpose. Description of the main types of metaphors in scientific and technical texts and determination of the specifics of their translation.

The research methodology is determined in accordance with the quantitative and qualitative paradigm and includes descriptive and comparative methods.

Research results. The structural and semantic types of metaphors in scientific and technical texts are characterized and the specifics of the choice of translation solutions are described.

Scientific value. In the analysis of language material, emphasis was placed on the causes of difficulties in the transmission of English metaphors by means of the Ukrainian language.

Practical value. Tips for translators-practitioners are formulated, aimed at reducing the level of distortion of scientific and technical text in translation, due to the use of metaphors.
